Only Daughter
First of all this story reminds me a lot of my parents. Daughters and sons always trying to impress their parents and trying to make them proud. In Hispanic families, fathers always think the girls get married after studying but it doesn't always happen like that.

In the story there's a quote that says "Being only daughter for my father meant that my destiny would lead me to become someone's wife"...(line 4) but this is the old days, now on days girls don't get married because the dad says too women have rights to choose who they want and when they want too. In the story the daughter didn't get married, she studied how her father wanted her to. She got an education to make her father proud but she didn't necessarily needed to marry and that's nothing to feel ashamed she can be free and do anything she wants with her life.

My father would tell my mom that I was not going to graduate from school and that I wasn't going to have good grades and that I was not definitely not going to college. I'm doing the opposite of what he thought I was going to do. I have showed him how I'm doing in school and he feels proud and happy for me. He has trust on me that I'm going to continue school and do good.

There's another quote in the story that says "I went upstairs ti my father's room." "One of my stories had just been translated into Spanish and published in an anthology of Chicago writing and I wanted to show it to him"(line 14). She did her best so her father could see what she has accomplish and she brought a copy of the story in Spanish o her father could see it in his language he can understand and see the things she would write about. Sometimes I would do that with my mom so she could see what I was writing about and so she can feel proud of me it feels good to tell your parent and get good feedback from them.

The Allegory of the Cave

This passage was about most of all ignorance of life. This story showed it on the prisoners how they do not know nothing about life except what the other people in the other side of the wall show them. It's like a torture prison and definitely not a comfortable place because the prisoners have been chain since birth without doing nothing wrong in the world. There close to a fire which is something very discomforting.

Inside this prison is just ignorance and lies, they can not see the real world. I think who ever is in the other side of the wall don't want them to be independent and meet the beautiful world it's like if there blind some how because there not choosing what to see. In our world today there's a lot of persons that can not see clearly what there doing until something happens to them and they realize what they were doing wrong.

In the story there's a quote that says "When he approaches the light his eyes will be dazzled, and he will not be able to see anything at all of what are now called realities"...(line 19) what this means to me is that the prisoners don't know nothing about life they have ignorance and of that ignorance they are going to have fear about life. For example in our days girls getting pregnant they don't see what they were doing wrong until a mistake happens and they find out there pregnant at the end and realize all the things they were doing wrong and that's when they open there eyes and see clearly.

This story is also saying that to see reality people need to observe little by little and learn about it to see clearly what is happening. If a prisoner was to get out that is what would probably happen to him learn and then see what was really happening to him before he got freedom and he will think about the other prisoners and feel sorry for them, he will probably feel scared of trying to help them because a lot of things could go through his head like being killed by trying to help them. This story really make you think about life and how to have a better understanding about it.
